Kirsten Kumar is an associate attorney at the Kumar Law Firm and daughter of Sanjeev Kumar.
After graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 2021, Kirsten jumped straight into helping business owners and entrepreneurs navigate the complexities of commercial disputes and due diligence. She has already acquired valuable experience in many aspects of litigation, including pre-litigation negotiations, preliminary investigations, discovery, settlement negotiations, trial, and post-judgment collection. She has successfully obtained favorable judgments for her clients with over half a million in damages rewarded.
She also works closely on all sides of intellectual property law, from preparing filings for provisional and nonprovisional patents and trademarks to protecting those rights or challenging the validity thereof in rights and licensing infringement cases pending before federal court.
Kirsten brings a high level of organization, strong work ethic, and an eye for detail to the firm, in addition to her skills in research, drafting, and editing from her background in Journalism and prior work experience in the startup industry in Austin. She strives to maintain mutual respect and professionalism in her relationships with clients, colleagues, and adverse parties.
In addition to her interest in assisting the firm’s clients with strategically remedying their business or intellectual property disputes, Kirsten has a passion for international human rights law and international criminal law. Before joining the firm, Kirsten was a judicial intern for the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals, which performs the remaining functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. There, she assisted in the Office of the Prosecutor’s appellate review of individuals formerly tried for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Kirsten also previously interned for Refugee Services of Texas, a non-profit that provides pro bono and low bono legal services to refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking. There, she assisted in the Immigration Legal Services Program to provide clients with family reunification petitions, applications for permanent residency or naturalization, and applications for employment authorization.
